Pregnant women are usually tested for GBS bacteria between 35-37 weeks of pregnancy. A sample of mucus is taken and sent for evaluation during a pelvic exam. If the results are positive, your physician may recommend receiving antibiotics during labor.

Pap smear screening checks for cell changes in the cervix for pre-cancerous cells (dysplasia) HPV (Human papillomavirus) or cervical cancer.

Some lifestyle choices can increase your risk of abnormal cell changes. Did you start having ex at a young age? Have you had many sexual partners? Have you had ex without using a latex condom? Do you smoke? Have you previously been diagnosed with an STD (sexually transmitted disease)? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are more at risk.

HPV is a family of viruses that spread through skin contact. Some types cause genital warts, and a few HPV types can cause cell changes (dysplasia) in the cervix that may lead to cancer.
